Advice about Runner’s Knee Pain
Hi Gary I am a 46 year old male I have flat feet that i have orthatics ? made for me I run a average of 800 miles a year and only trouble i normally get is the odd calf strain I can do a 10km in around 44mins a 1/2 in 1.40 and a full in justover 4 hours i do about 4 marathons ayear. I have now got runners knee in the left knee and receiving physo with streching heat and electro pluse. I seem to manage a 5km run every second day and by the third run the inside leg just above knee seems to get tired and niggly any ideas what else to do, is taping the way to go or is that masking the problem. i have been doing plenty of streching at home after run regards james For more information go here: blog.garymoller.com

@gazzamoller Sir. are stairs good for chondromalacia? i heard they are injurious to knees with condromalacia and patello femoral pain. plz deliberate as u in ur above comment has suggested to walk and run up stairs
@92andrewford Hahahah hes monotonic for me… i didnt understand a word
hahhaaa….hairy masseur with the name ‘Igor’ and very large hands…(:o))
Where’s the evidence that Orthotics are bad for you. Orthotics help prevent pronation and Posterior Tibial Tendonitis. If you are flat footed you are not going to grow an arch.
i wanted 2 listen to this but the guys accent is shit
heel striking is the source of knee pain. try running barefoot I guarantee your knees will not hurt. Guarantee. Your lower calves will hurt but barefoot running solves knee pain, that is because when you run barefoot you land on your forefoot.
im sorry if you believe that a crappy bit of foam can compensate for thousands of years of evolution! the reason why runners get pain in there joins is simply because they aren’t running properly. (in most cases) i have Joint hypermobility syndrome that causes me problems mostly in my shoulder but now i have solved the pain i was getting in my knee and hip by running properly!
What do you think about foam rollers? I have IT band syndrome(pain on the outside of the Knee) been checked by a sports doctor and physiotherapists. I can’t seen to get rid of this pain. I can’t run, walk or do anything. What should I do?
What do you think about foam rollers?
Im only 12 yrs old and i chondromalcia in both my knees and my ortho told me to go pt. My knees give out and swell ang hurts so bad!
Are you a long distance jogger? Are you a little overweight? Did you JUST START a jogging program?
If you just started a jogging program, make sure your aren’t overweight. If you are a little overweight, concentrate on briskly walking.
Calories burned walking vs jogging isn’t much different.
If you have sore muscles, you need to let it heal. Stop jogging and let the muscles recuperate. Do leg lifts and plenty of stretches…it should go away.
I was wondering. my knee pain hurts whenever I bend by knee like a squating motion whenever it goes 90 degrees. So if I just exercise all my leg muscless evenly it will go away?? thanks
Well mine hurt BAD for a month or so. After that it gradually went away.
thanks for the info.. One last question though. Can you give an estimate for how long you think I won’t be able to run? Just give me a good guess so I have some general idea. This is the first time anything like this happened to me and, like all runners, I am incredibly anxious to start running asap.
I would chill if I were you. Ride a bike for exercise until it heals. It eventually goes away, but it will never go away if you keep running while it hurts. You could try a knee brace but I doubt it would help. Its the shock on your muscles around your knee that causes the pain. The slapping on the pavement is what causes it.
yea the pain is under the patella. It used to hurt when I walked. That was about 6 days ago. I have been using an ice pack on it 3 times a day and I do certain stretches and leg lefts to help it. Now it is 100% fine. the only problem is right when I try to running I get the pinching feeling under my knee cap. It starts of small but about a minute into it the pain increases significantly. Then i stop of course. Would a knee brace be of use for something like this?
Well mine lasted for a month or so, then I went to PT to fix it. Does it feel like the pain is under the patella?
The best thing for runners knee is riding stationary bikes and running on ellipticals. Stretch two times a day and DON’T RUN. The impact of your feet hitting the pavement is what causes the pain. How does it feel when you stomp your bad leg? That will tell you if you have runners knee.
what are some good knee stretches? any advice? I have runner’s knee now and I am desperate to recover.
How can one do that? can you give more details? I have runner’s knee right now and it has kept me from running for over 5 days now. It’s getting really frustrating
Got runners knee?? Train your muscles and it will go away. That simple! I went to a PT to train mine, and now my knee feels great. Fix the muscle imbalances and the pain WILL go away!
I have runners knee myself and i have plenty of knee stretching excercises. Try to do 6 stretches 3 times a day and ice your knee after running. If you choose to tape your knee, use athletics tape and support your knee upwards and out. For myself i have a support for runners knee call a knee strap which is aviable in most stores between $20 and for really good ones $80.
when i dont wear my orthotics my ankles and feet hurt. When i do my knee hurts!!!lose lose situation!
also had laser therpy on my knee, didnt seem to help much…
I have had severe pain in the centre of my kneecap of almost 6 months now. It came a week after I started cycling. I dont feel it now however using the clutch in my car or climbing stairs brings it all back. Any adice on how to clear this up and what is the timeframe?
Have a look at my video about how to strengthen weak, pronating feet. Pronating feet cause knee instability, so do that exercise. Then get a bike and ride. Find stairs and run/walk up them and take the lift down to save the knee caps. Find a small step, put on a weighted down backpack and do stepups
You could get into a gym and do leg extensions but this is not really necessary.
Get a little protein 3-6 times a day and get a weekly massage on the thighs
